The BJP on Tuesday hit back at Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her obnoxious comments against her Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi calling him a “comrade dangabaaz” who “should be put in jail.”
Asserting that the BJP is proud of Modi, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday said that one “Chief Minister should not use such kind of a disgusting language for another Chief Minister” adding the people of Bengal “will give her a fitting reply on May 16.”A Chief Minister had no right to arrest another Chief Minister, Prasad said adding the infiltrators were harming India’s social and economic fabric.
Prasad said that with rising popularity of Modi the Trinamool supremo’s disappointment was growing and, hence, she is making such disgusting remarks. “I think the Election Commission should look into such comments.”Curiously, as an NDA constituent, Banerjee had in 2005 demanded a discussion on infiltration in Parliament saying the Marxists were allowing infiltrators in India for vote-bank politics. However, her stance seem to have changed after nine years, experts say.
Banerjee had, on Monday, said Modi should be jailed for demanding deportation of Bangladeshi infiltrators from Bengal. The BJP prime ministerial candidate had in earlier elections rallies said that those who had been thrown out of Bangladesh and come to Bengal as refugees were welcome but the fortune hunters who had infiltrated this country for economic and other gains would be deported from India.
Prasad’s comment came even as Banerjee continued her tirade against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate daring him to “touch those persons who have come from Bangladesh and then see what I can do.”Addressing an election rally at Panihati in North 24 Parganas, Banerjee said, “No one has any right to direct the citizens of his own country to pack up and go. And if you say so I dare you to throw them out. If you have courage do so and then see what I can do.”
Though she did not name Modi, she alleged the saffron leader was dividing Bengal for electoral gains and the CPI(M) was behind it. Banerjee told the Panihati assemblage that the people whom Modi wanted to be deported were all voters of this country and had come after 1972 Bangladesh war.Meanwhile, the Commission on Tuesday beefed up the security for the Wednesday’s fourth phase of elections.
Under pressure from the political parties, which complained large-scale rigging in the third phase, the Commission has appointed a three-member committee to look into the complaints of electoral malpractices. Apart from this unlike in earlier phases the polling booths will be manned by Central forces. Route march was also being conducted in the sensitive areas to instil confidence among voters, EC sources said.
Six seats of Bankura, Bishnupur, Purulia, Medinipur, Asansol and Jhargram would go to poll on Wednesday. All these seats are currently held by the left Front. About 88.77 lakh voters would exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 72 candidates out of which 11 are women.Prominent among the candidates are Hindi-Bengali cine stars Moon Moon Sen, Sandhya Roy, Deb, singer Babul Supriyo and senior Marxist leaders Basudeb Acharya and Santosh Rana.
