The BJP has set a two-week deadline for PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti to take a final call on the future of the alliance Government in Jammu & Kashmir. State BJP leaders from Jammu on Wednesday met top RSS leaders in New Delhi in the presence of State BJP in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna, National general secretary Ram Madhav, and RSS leaders to finetune its future strategy.
During the meeting the party leaders discussed the current political situation and also reviewed performance of the nine month old alliance govt in the state. The State RSS leaders shared their own assessment with the top brass during the meeting and cautioned too much concessions should not be given to the PDP Chief at this crucial juncture.
State BJP leaders who attended the meeting in New Delhi said, “Before holding fresh parleys with the PDP chief in Srinagar, the BJP wanted to review its stand over certain contentious issues.”
The BJP has once again tried to open channels of communication with the PDP leadership to convey a straight message to take a final call over Government formation before the beginning of the crucial Budget Session beginning February 23. The Central BJP leadership has tried to convey the message to the alliance partner as they do not want any internal feud to flare up during the Parliament Session.
Sources say Mehbooba was looking for resumption of internal dialogue process with the separatists, commitment over partial withdrawl of AFSPA, Vacation of civilian properties under Army’s control, handing over of NHPC-run two hydel power projects, liberal funding for flood relief rehabilitation work, etc. The State unit of BJP once again expected to seek some more time in the wake of direct involvement of the Central party leaders to break the impasse.
Meanwhile, the PDP is finding itself in the tight spot as it has failed to extract commitments from the Centre to redraw the contours of the agenda of alliance.
