BJP set to distribute water tanks in 1,000 Maharashtra villages

In its effort to contribute to its bit to mitigate the problems of the drought-affected people in the State, Maharashtra BJP on Thursday announced that it would supply water to people in 1,000 villages through tankers.

Addressing party workers on the occasion of the departure of first two trucks — carrying fodder for cattle — to one of the drought-affected areas in the State, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde said: “Given that the drought in the State is most severe, the relief being provided by the Government to the people in the scarcity-hit areas is grossly inadequate. Keeping this in view, the Maharashtra BJP will supply water to people in at least 1,000 drought-affected areas in the State”.

Munde charged that the State Government was not sincere in its efforts to address the drought situation in the State, where there was acute shortage in a large number of villages.

“There is not only acute water shortage in most of the drought-hit areas, but also a large-scale migration of people has begun from the affected areas. The relief being doled out by the State Government is meagre. What people in the affected areas need today are both immediate relief and a long-term package,” Munde said.

“Drought may be a natural phenomenon, but what has aggravated the situation is the improper implementation of various irrigation schemes. On our part, th BJP workers are currently involved in reaching fodder for cattle and drinking water to people in as many affected villages as possible. As part of the exercise, we plan to supply water to people in at least 1,000 village through tankers,” the BJP’s deputy group leader in the lok Sabha said.
