The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today sharply reacted and complained against Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Executive president Hemant Soren at the Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand’s office seeking treason charges against the duo for Hemant’s statement against BJP leaders in a poll rally.
Hemant Soren, taking a jibe at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath and other BJP leaders who wear saffron clothes, said that BJP leaders, who wear saffron clothes usually, avoid marriages, but rape women. Addressing a rally in Pakur, he also said that there is no respect for women in BJP rule and incidents of rape are occurring regularly.
The BJP has alleged in its complaint letter to ECI that Hemant Soren tried to hurt Hindu sentiments by passing such a “derogatory” remark and the INC General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi, who was also present on the stage did not stop him doing the same, neither did she condemn it. The BJP stated that it appeared that Priyanka also subscribed to the statement.
Objecting sharply to Soren’s remark a delegation of the State BJP met officials at CEO office in Ranchi in the evening and filed a complaint against him.
State BJP president Laxman Gilua said that this is catastrophic statement and Soren has badly insulted all Hindu followers and priests.
“It is unfortunate that even Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi was on the same stage, but she did not stop Soren from passing such an obscene statement. Gandhi came to Pakur to address the election meeting.
It is clear that the Congress is also with this statement and supporting Soren on the issue. By the way, insulting Hindus is in the DNA of Congress leaders. Congress leaders have even denied the existence of Lord Ram,” said Gilua.
Expressing deep concern on fall of morality during election campaign Gilua said that this is the culmination of the fall of morality. “When the discussion is going on against the incidents of rape in the whole country, Hemant Soren has insulted the people of Hindu community by his filthy language. Soren should immediately apologise for his statement. Election campaign does not mean that Soren can say anything. However, we do not expect decent behaviour from Soren, but it does not mean that Soren insults the saints and priests,” he added.
Speaking on the issue State BJP chief said that Hindus are tolerant, but if someone will try to abuse saints and priests, they will not tolerate it. “Soren’s eyes are covered with glasses of appeasement. He has given the statement for getting votes of a particular community. The people of Jharkhand will avenge this insult to Hinduism,” he added.
JMM General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said that BJP has conceded its defeat and that is why it is fuelling such controversies.
“Hemant Ji has not taken anyone’s name in his speech. Many rapists in the recent past have been found to be wearing saffron clothes. Wearing saffron clothes doesn’t provide impunity from law,” he said.
