Even as the violence being perpetrated allegedly by the CPI(M) against BJP workers in Kannur and other places in Kerala is to come up for detailed discussion in the BJP’s national council meeting to be held in Kozhikode from September 23, a delegation of party MPs met State Governor P Sathasivam on Sunday to request for urgent steps for putting an end to Marxist violence and an impartial and fair investigation into attacks against party activists.

The MPs’ delegation led by Bhupendra Yadav, BJP’s national general secretary, met the Governor at the Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday morning and submitted to him a memorandum which complained that the CPI(M) was unleashing violence against BJP activists in Kannur and other places. The team also conveyed its concern over such attacks to him.

The BJP leaders met Justice Sathasivam after visiting the homes of the victims of alleged CPI(M) attacks in Kannur district, as directed by party president Amit Shah. The delegation also visited the party’s State committee office which had come under a crude bomb attack by suspected Marxists at September 7 midnight.

The delegation, which included MPs Meenakshi lekhi, Ananth Kumar Hegde, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Richard Hay and Suresh Gopi, also wanted compensation to be awarded to the victims of Marxist violence. State BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan, party’s national executive member PK Krishnadas and other leader leaders accompanied the MPs to the Raj Bhavan.

“The spate of violence that is taking in the State since the (lDF) Government came to power is there for everyone to see,” Meenakshi lekhi told newsmen on Sunday after meeting the Governor. She also said that all systems of effective investigation should be put into work under such circumstances.

After visiting the house of BJP activist CK Ramachandran (48) in Kannur district who was murdered over two months ago, the delegationon Saturday demanded the constitution of an independent inquiry panel headed by a sitting High Court judge lo look into the incidents of violence that had taken place since the CPI(M)-led lDF came to power in the State last May.

Ramachandran, also a local BMS leader, was stabbed to death on the night of July 12 in front of his house at Annoor, Payyannur. According to Bhupendra Yadav, Kerala was presently under a political and institutional dictatorship and that an unseen emergency imposed by the CPI(M) cadres and the leftist Government was prevailing in the State.

“The CPI(M) had started a campaign of violence in Kannur with the murder of RSS activist Vadikkal Ramakrishnan in 1969 and it is continuing even now,” said Yadav, adding that attacks against BJP-RSS workers were continuing in the native places of even CM Pinarayi Vijayan and State CPI(M) secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

At the same time, sources in the BJP said that the CPI(M) violence against party workers and their homes in Kannur and elsewhere would figure in the political resolution to be adopted by the national council meeting to be held in Kozhikode from Friday. The move is to ensure the intervention of the Central Home Department in the matter.

All the details like names, addresses and areas of activity of those who had come under the CPI(M)’s attack in Kannur are likely to figure in the resolution. According to the BJP’s estimates, 88 party activists have been killed in Kannur in CPI(M) attacks between the killing of Vadikkal Ramakrishnan in 1969 and the murder of Vineesh  (27) in Thillankery on September 4.

Meanwhile, CPI(M)’s central committee member and Sate Industries Minister EP Jayarajan, hailing from Kannur district, said in Delhi on Sunday that the visit to Kerala by the BJP MPs’ delegation was meant to keep the violence it was perpetrating in Kannur concealed. “The track-records of some of the MPs in that delegation should be subjected to examination,” he added.
