On the eve of first phase of polling, Bhartiya Janata party came out with its manifesto for Gujarat elections in which the ruling party promised to continue doing development work by giving prominence to agriculture sector.
Releasing party’s manifesto, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley came down heavily on Congress party saying that the Opposition party lied in its manifesto by promising to give reservation and financial concessions to those who are agitating as constitutionally it wouldn’t be possible.
“BJP Government’s performance spoke for itself and quoted latest Crisil ratings agency report, which put Gujarat at the top among the States with highest GSDP growth in the past five years,” said Finance Minister adding that in the past five years under BJP rule, Gujarat has recorded 10 per cent average growth rate. Even China’s pace of growth has reduced to 6.5 per cent, he went on to say.
The BJP in its manifesto said that it would work for modernisation of agriculture based on technology. Apart from formation of Gujarat Olympic Mission, the BJP tried to woo youngsters by promising result-oriented employment schemes. It also touched women empowered issue, rural development, cleanliness, marine wealth, transparency in governance, tourism to name a few.
Jaitley criticised Congress saying that the oldest political party is looking at illogical concessions. He was talking about Congress’s promised additional financial concessions worth Rs 20,000. On the reservation promise to the Patidar community by the Congress, Jaitley hit out at the party saying, “The social polarisation in the State will only damage the State. If Congress moves ahead on this path, they will cause massive damage to the State just as they did in 1980s.”
