Seeks help for State Govt-run schemes
In order to continue its winning streak in Gujarat, State BJP leaders have asked Members of Parliament elected from the State in the lok Sabha as well as the Rajya Sabha to shell out money from their grants to support the State Government-run schemes as well as augment their involvement ahead of the Assembly bypolls.
On Thursday, a meeting of Gujarat MPs was held at ‘Sri Kamalam’ in Gandhinagar, new State headquarters of the saffron party. The meeting was attended by the State BJP leaders. Of the 34 Gujarat MPs of BJP — 26 lok Sabha members and eight Rajya Sabha members — nearly 30 attended the meeting. Top BJP leaders lK Advani, Arun Jaitley and Smriti Irani couldn’t attend the meeting, said a source in the party.
“During the meeting it was decided that the MPs will contribute from their grants to support State-run schemes, especially education related schemes,” said IK Jadeja, Gujarat BJP spokesman.
They were asked to become more active in their respective constituencies in wake of upcoming bypolls of nine Assembly seats as well as Vadodara lok Sabha constituency, said Jadeja adding the party would not fall into contentment after thumping victory in the lok Sabha polls, but the it would like to continue its winning streak at all level.
Immediate focus is on Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC) election to be held on 20th July this year, he said adding that JMC is the only municipal corporation ruled by the Congress and the BJP would like to capture it.
At a time when Gujarat is providing leadership to the whole nation, responsibilities of Gujarat MPs would be more than their counterparts in other States, said an MP who attended the meeting, adding that the leadership asked all the MPs to work as ‘Team Gujarat’.
