BJP Parliamentary Board to meet today

BJP’s Parliamentary Board is meeting here on Thursday to discuss setting up sub-panels that will assist Narendra Modi-headed National Campaign Committee of the party in election management.

At its meet, the party’s highest decision making body is also expected to assign some organisation-specific duty to individuals, including former chief Nitin Gadkari. Issues related to Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi would also be discussed. Gadkari is tipped to get election-related responsibility for Delhi and Rajasthan. BJP’s Delhi unit is functioning without a Prabhari and its State president Vijay Goel had requested party’s central leadership to assign that responsibility to Gadkari.

Sources claimed the party also wanted Gadkari for election-specific duty in Rajasthan where infighting poses a threat to party’s electoral prospects. Then, the issue of setting sub-committees had been discussed during the last two meeting of the Parliamentary Board of the party on July 4 and July 8 but no formal announcement could be made.

“Party will try to settle most of these issues at the (Thursday) meeting,” sources claimed. BJP chief is leaving for United States on July 20. Another meeting of the Parliamentary Board is expected after he returns from US on July 26. “Issues that would be settled in the (Thursday) meeting would be taken up in the next meeting,” sources added.

Meanwhile, Narendra Modi reached national Capital on Wednesday and held a meeting with Singh. Speculation has been rife that party would soon take a call on projecting Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate.
