The BJP National Executive is expected to meet next month and set the ground for the changes in the office-bearers team and party organisations.
The revamping in the team which is usually effected soon after the completion of organisational elections and election of the party President, early this year, has been delayed and is likely to coincide with the changes in the Union Cabinet, according to sources.
Amit Shah was elected unopposed as the BJP chief for the second time (in his first term Shah completed the remaining tenure of Rajnath Singh, his predecessor) on January 24. Since then all major changes have been put on hold as Shah and other leaders kept themselves busy in preparations for assembly polls in Assam, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala. The counting of votes and results of poll results in these States would be known by May 19.
According to party sources, the National executive may meet on June 11-12, three months after such meeting held in Delhi from March 19 to March 20. There was a one year gap between the Delhi meet and the one that preceded it in Bengaluru. The party constitution mandates such a meeting to take place every three months.
A BJP win in Assam which is crucial for the confidence of the party after reverses in Delhi and Bihar elections, would further strengthen Party President’s hand and help build him his team according to his line of strategy and approach to the National issues.
The BJP would be facing a major political challenge in Uttar Pradesh which would go to polls early next year with ruling Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party which emerging as main rivals and contenders in the three corner contest.
According party sources, the BJP will have to project its chief ministerial candidate in UP if it wanted “to connect” with the voter vis-à-vis Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati. The meeting next month is expected to discuss its political strategy in UP threadbare.
