BJP MP attacks RaGa over copter, properties deals

The AgustaWestland issue was raised in the lok Sabha during Zero Hour on Wednesday with a BJP member demanding an investigation to find out who received kickbacks in the deal for 12 VVIP helicopters.

Without taking any name, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya said in the lower House that a politician was involved in buying and selling properties, which he said was earlier done by his jijaji (brother-in-law) in Haryana.

This led to protest from the Congress benches. Party president Sonia Gandhi was present in the House.

Taking up the issue, the BJP MP claimed that two of the accused in the alleged scam — Gautam Khaitan and Guido Haschke — were also “involved” in other companies and as per a SEBI report, incorporated as directors in real estate company Emaar-MGF.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had on Tuesday sought to dismiss BJP’s attempts to drag him into the CWG and VVIP chopper scam, saying he has always been targeted and that he was “happy to be targeted”.

Somaiya, in a letter to ED and CBI, had reportedly asked them to check Congress leader’s links with a real estate developer allegedly involved in the CWG scam and also the alleged connections of a political aide of the Congress vice-president with a middleman in the AgustaWestland deal.
