The Election Commission has found the sitting MlA of the BJP and saffron party’s candidate from Bhopal Narela constituency Vishwas Sarang, guilty of violating model code of conduct.

The Commission warned Sarang of being cautious in his actions from next time.Notably, the Commission had on November 13 issued a notice to Sarang on asking him to explain as why he gave Rs1 lakh to a Jain temple on October 27 while the model code of conduct is in force in the State.

In the notice, the EC pointed out that although the model code of conduct had come into force in Madhya Pradesh on October 4, it had received information that during a function at Jain Mandir on October 27, the MlA had offered a substantial donation to the temple. “When the development of the temple was being carried out, Had promised that I would offer some flowers, which I’ve done today. I have also given Rs1 lakh from my side,” Sarang had announced to loud cheers during his visit to the temple

The commission’s notice informed Sarang that the model code of conduct stipulated that all parties and leaders should avoid corrupt practices and offences under the election law, such as the bribing of voters.

In the notice, the ECI had asked him to explain as why action should not be taken against him. On receipt of Sarang’s reply of the notice on November 15, the Commission examined it and reached to the conclusion that Sarang violated model code of conduct.
