BJP MlA demands compensation for victims of 2008 Amarnath land row

A day after Jammu & Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti announced compensation of Rs5 lakhs in favour of the next of kin of those killed during the five-month-long Kashmir unrest, State BJP chief and local MlA from Jammu West Assembly segment Sat Paul Sharma demanded similar compensation package for those killed during Amarnath land row in 2008.

Soon after Mehbooba Mufti announced the compensation package on the floor of the state assembly eye brows were raised within the BJP camp as till date they had failed to convince the alliance partner to announce similar package for the victims of Amarnath land row.

Participating in the discussion on the motion of thanks on  Governor’s address  Sat Paul Sharma said, “12 people holding tri colour in their hands were killed during 2008 protests in the aftermath of Amarnath land row and one of them suffered permanent disability but none of them was compensated by the state govt till date”.

He demanded CM and deputy CM to take note of this disparity and immediately announce similar compensation package for the next of kin of Amarnath land row victims.

Sounding a word of caution Sat Paul Sharma warned the state govt not to take any decision in haste which may demoralise  security forces and police personnel in the state.

Sharma said in 2010 when more than 110 youth were killed in sporadic incidents of street violence  Omar Abdullah led alliance govt had also granted 5 lakh ex-gratia to the deceased families besides offering Government job to one member of the family.
