The BJP lended its support to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on its proposed 84-Kosi yatra surrounding Ayodhya from August 25.
State president of BJP laxmikant Bajpai here said that his party would give full support to the VHP on whatever decision it takes over the proposed yatra, banned by the Samajwadi Party Government. Talking to reporters here on Tuesday afternoon, Bajpai criticised the Akhilesh Yadav Government for its “double standard” and “communal stand” behind banning the VHP yatra. “84-kosi yatra can be done anytime in the year and there is no fixed date for it. This yatra or parikrama is done by people throughout the year. But as the sadhus will do the yatra in a group so the State Government was informed,” he clarified while making an attack on the State Government.
The BJP State president said that the State Government was trying to appease the Muslims by preventing the religious yatra of the majority community. The BJP leader also criticised Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati for supporting the UP Government on banning the yatra. “Now, the BSP too toeing the lines of the SP to appease the Muslims before the lok Sabha elections,” he said. Meanwhile, Bajpai questioned the UP Government why they left out the backwards and other minority community in providing reservation in the welfare schemes. “The Cabinet note issued regarding forwarding 20 per cent of the benefits to the minorities just mentioned Christian, Jain, Sikhs just at one place and all other places just Muslim community has been mentioned which pointed the appeasement policy of the Government,” alleged Bajpai.
