BJP leaders to head most Par panels

The BJP will head the maximum standing committees of Parliament with Estimate Committee, Committee on Public Undertaking, Committee on SC/ST and OBC bagged by its leaders.

Senior BJP leader MM Joshi may head the estimate committee while former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Shanta Kumar is expected to chair the Committee on Public Undertaking.

New BJP SC Morcha chief Faggan Singh Kulaste may be at the head of SC/ST Committee, and BJP vice-president and MP Bandaru Dattatreya could chair OBC committee. Kulaste, an MP from Madhya Pradesh, was reportedly not happy with the post of ST Morcha President in the newly reconstituted BJP team announced last week, by its president Amit Shah.

The BJP may head at least 11 department-related standing committees of the lok Sabha and two of the Rajya Sabha. BJP ally Shiv Sena may bag one committee.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Committee on External Affairs will be headed by the Congress party. While former Food Minister KV Thomas has been appointed by the Speaker as Chairman of the PAC, former Minister of State of External Affairs Shashi Tharoor is likely to head the Standing Committee on External Affairs.

Out of the 16 department-related standing committees in the lok Sabha, the Congress, AIADMK, Biju Janata Dal and Trinamool Congress may get one each. The Janata Dal (United), Bahujan Samaj Party and Trinamool Congress will get to head one committee each. None from CPI-M would be heading any committee.
