With a view to intensify its campaign against the Mamata Banerjee Government ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections the Bengal BJP on Wednesday launched a dedicated phone number to register the “disgruntled electorate’s” complaints against what they called “corrupt activities of the Trinamool Congress.”
Launching a toll-free phone number to entertain people’s grievances against the “corrupt Trinamool Congress regime”
Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said “Corruption and Trinamool are inseparable expressions… the people of Bengal have been suffering under this corrupt regime for past one decade now and this must come to an end … which is why we have brought this phone number so that the people can get their experiences registered here and help us take up their causes.”
The BJP calls the programme Durnitir Biruddhe (or campaign against corruption). Saying that the number was toll-free .
Ghosh said that “the victims of TMC’s corruption or that of its leaders can call up in this number and share their grievances.”
Once a complaint was registered in the toll free number 7044070440 itwould be processed and sent to the central leadership, he said withoutdivulging however whether action against such complaints would be taken at the government or political level.
Apart from sharpening its weapons against the TMC Government the newnumber was also likely to provide a general understanding about theBJP’s clout in various regions … particularly whether its support basehave increased, decreased or remained static after the landslidesuccess in the 2019 general elections when the party surprised the TMCby wresting almost half the parliamentary seats from the State.
The TMC won 21 seats while the BJP bagged 19 seats. Two seats went tothe Congress whereas the Left got none dropping sufficient indicationthat almost the entire Left vote bank swerved rightwards.
According to the party leadership the decision to launch the toll freenumber was taken in a recently held strategy meeting in Delhi wherethe Bengal leaders raised the issue of large-scale corruption in thepost Amphan distribution of monetary compensation and relief to theaffected people.
“The BJP will look into the massive scam involving the distribution ofrelief post super-cyclone Amphan,” Ghosh said adding there werecomplaints that many ruling party leaders had misappropriated theAmphan relief fund by getting allocations in the names of their kinwho had not been affected in the super cyclone.
