Hours after the BJP Government followed up its “unparliamentary language” diktats by banning sit-ins inside Parliament premises, the Trinamool Congress launched a scathing attack on the Centre for imposing a “regulated democracy” in the country.
Wondering whether the order was implementable in practice senior party MP Saugato Roy said, “Yesterday we heard about orders on so-called unparliamentary languages … today comes this order banning dharna … I don’t know what they are up to … the BJP Government is trying to impose a regulated democracy in India … the order simply amounts to infringement on the rights of people’s representatives … it is time that the opposition irrespective of their party colours unite against such order.”When asked whether such a directive could be implemented in practice, he said “I don’t think they would be very serious about its implementation … in any case the opposition parties still have the option of moving a no-trust motion on issues of national importance … particularly one that pertains to the rights of the MPs.”
