Warns Trinamool of Central action if attacks on BJP workers continue
With the Opposition left having been relegated to the back seat, the BJP picked up the cudgels against the ruling Trinamool Congress, cautioning it of Central action if attacks on its workers continued in Bengal.
At the end of a huge rally considered as a show of strength ahead of ensuing municipal elections, the saffron leaders on Monday warned the TMC-led State Government of actions as prescribed under the Constit-ution if the attacks on the BJP workers did not stop forthwith.
Issuing a veiled warning that the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre would not sit a silent spectator to the violence being perpetrated on the saffron workers in Bengal, senior leader and Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia said at the end of what the party christened a ‘Bangla Bachao Rally’, that the Trinamool must stop violence in Bengal. “If they do not stop the attacks against our workers, we know the constitutional ways to stop them.”
Wondering as to “why the TMC is still attacking our workers even after getting 34 seats which they, however, won by rigging and violence,” the Darjeeling MP said the Bengal ruling outfit was getting restless because it knew its fate after 2016 Assembly elections.
“They should stop the anarchy because the Government at the Centre now is not of Manmohan Singh but of Narendra Modi.”
Attacking the Mamata Banerjee Government for giving Bengal a sham of a poribortan, BJP’s central observer for State Siddharthnath Singh gave a clarion call for bringing a ‘real poribortan’ after Assembly polls.
“Today we are giving a call for Trinamool-free Government in 2016,” Singh said, wondering “why didi is so nervous of the BJP” because “she should have been happy with the results of the general polls.”
The “time of Mamata is up and her dictatorship will not last long,” he said, adding the BJP will soon replace the Trinamool in Bengal.
On the kind of political change the TMC Government brought in Bengal, State BJP president Rahul Sinha said how his party had warned the people before 2011 elections that “the people are bringing one set of dacoits in place of the other,” adding how the “TMC has only cheated the people of Bengal in the name of poribortan.”
Incidentally, in what looked like a show of strength from either parties, the Trinamool Congress also came out with a huge rally protesting in their part the ‘steep rise in the railway fare.’ Senior leaders, including Sudip Bandopadhyay, and Mukul Roy, took part in the procession and demanded immediate withdrawal of the hiked fare failing which "we will take the issue up in Parliament."
The Chief Minister in a speech in the State Assembly said "such decision to hike fares have always created problems for the masses. The decision to hike the fare is unprecedented," she said even as the State Assembly took a unanimous resolution opposing the hiked fares.
Without naming the BJP, the Chief Minister said: “The political parties often do not practice what they preach during when they are in the Opposition,” adding: “There are some parties which talk about acchhe din, but after they come to power, they take decisions that are anti-people.”
