Why did the BJP choose Nizamabad, instead of Hyderabad, to conduct its public meeting to celebrate “Telangana liberation Day”, marking the merger of Nizam State into Indian Union 69 years agoIJ
Many in the State political circles believe that the decision was not incidental but appears to be part of a larger game plan to wrest the prestigious Nizamabad lok Sabha seat, now represented by K Kavitha, daughter of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and many other senior leaders of the BJP will address the public meeting at the end of the Statewide campaign, meetings and demonstrations to urge the TRS Government to celebrate the day officially.
The BJP is going all out to make the event a big success to enliven the party rank and file and create confidence in them that the party is going to capture power in the State in 2019.
As part of the plan many leaders of other parties, including D Ravi, the son of senior TRS leader, and Rajya Sabha member D Srinivas will be inducted in the party on the occasion.
Already many senior party leaders, including general secretary P Murlidhar Rao, have visited Nizamabad to assess the situation.
Party sources said that apart from Hyderabad and Secunderabad, where the party had won five Assembly and one lok Sabha seat in 2014, BJP planners will be focussing on entire North Telangana where BJP was strong till TRS swallowed its supporters during the Telangana movement.
The BJP was trying its best to woo them back with the magic wand of Narendra Modi effect. “There is no other alternative to the TRS other than the BJP”, said Murlidhar Rao explaining why the party was expecting a large number of leaders of other parties to join it.
The party was specially hopeful of winning Nizamabad lok Sabha seat as it had a good chunk of votes. In the past, it’s leader Y lakshminarayana had won Nizamabad assembly seat once. In 2014, he contested lok Sabha seat and came third with about 21% votes behind Madhu Yashki of Congress who polled 26.32% votes. Kavitha who won the seat with more than 42% votes appears to be strong on the basis of her good work and close rapport with the constituency.
