Alarmed by the by-election results of Uttarakhand and Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party has constituted a high-profile team to lead the party’s campaign for the Uttar Pradesh bypolls scheduled next month.
Yogi Adityanath, a successor of Mahant Avaidyanath of Gorakhnath Peeth, along with Union Minister Kalraj Mishra and party’s State unit president laxmikant Bajpai have been chosen by the party high command to lead the poll campaign in this politically sensitive State.
BJP State spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said on Thursday that a strong campaign team had been constituted by party for the bypolls.
Earlier, Kalyan Singh was also included in the committee but later his named was dropped as he was made Governor of Rajasthan.
Each leader is slated to address at least one election meeting in all the 11 assembly and one lok Sabha seats where bye-elections are being held.
last month, the Gorakhpur MP had created a big controversy while initiating a debate on Communal Violence Bill in Parliament when he accused the Congress of working at the behest of Pakistan.
Interestingly, Adityanath has been made the poll campaigner at a time when communal tension is high in UP. The state has witnessed several communal violence in the past one year. Of late, the contentious issue of ‘love jihad’ has also been raised by the party.
Meanwhile, another BJP state spokesperson, Dr Chandramohan, said that Subrat Pathak, Vipin Verma, Purshottam Khandelwal and Atul Awasthi had been given the charge of campaigning in the Mainpuri lok Sabha constituency.
BJP MlA Suresh Rana has been made in-charge of Bijnor assembly seats while in other assembly constituencies, the local BJP leaders have been given prominence.
