Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday vowed to fulfill the dreams of his party BJP by winning the State in the next year’s Assembly elections.
“The BJP will come full circle only after winning Bengal in 2026, if the party can win 77 seats in 2021 from a meager 3 seats then there is no reason why it cannot win 177 seats in the next year’s elections,” Adhikari said adding the people of Bengal now wanted a Parivartan of Parivartan — a change of the change that was brought by present Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2011 by defeating the Left Front Government.
Incidentally the BJP had in 2021 Assembly elections given a call for winning 200 out of 294 seats but ended up winning only 77.
Out of that number at least three seats were lost in by-elections and about 5-6 MLAs joined the TMC.
He earlier said that he would “make Mamata Banerjee the former Chief Minister of the State” in 2026.
“The TMC said that we will win lesser seats and they will win more seats in 2026. I accept the challenge — I defeated you (Banerjee) in Nandigram in 2021; I will make you the former Chief Minister in 2026, now get used to the new name tag — ‘former Chief Minister’” Adhikari said.
Welcoming Adhikari to the “battle field,” TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that none can defeat Mamata Banerjee in Bengal.
“Let alone Suvendu Adhikari who was created by Mamata Banerjee even if the BJP’s top leaders come and camp in Bengal for one full year they will not be able to defeat TMC, they have been trying from 2016, their top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath had been daily passengers during 2021 elections but they managed to win only 77 seats out which they lost ten subsequently.
This time the Prime Minister has already come four times in Bengal in the past five months.
Even if he comes many times more the result will be the same, they will face even a bigger defeat,” Ghosh said.
