A day after “law took its own course” following a discourse of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who condemned in public the BJP leaders for leading armed on the Ramanavami day the BJP nearly threatened retaliatory steps should the Trinamool Government not stop victimizing the saffron leaders.
Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargyia on Friday said the Trinamool Government was going too far with its repressive ways. “They have instituted cases against our leaders but they have spared their own leaders who were also carrying weapons in the same rallies. The law should have been equal for both them and us. They should not forget that if they are ruling in Bengal the BJP has its Government in the Centre.
“Against your repressive and prejudiced acts how long can we sit quite” he said adding, “the reason behind victimizing our leaders is the tough stance taken by the CBI in the chit fund and other cases. Ever since the arrest of its senior leaders in the chit fund cases the Trinamool Government here is acting in a vindictive manner. But we should remind them that the name of at least 8 of their Ministers figure in corruption cases and half of State Cabinet would land in jail soon.”
Echoing Vijaybargiya State BJP president Dilip Ghosh wondered why only the BJP leaders were being singled out by the State Government. “By doing so they are only inviting counter steps which will not be soothing for their leaders. When we will start lodging cases they will not get lawyers to stand for them. Dozens of FIRs were lodged against BJP leaders like Ghosh for allegedly brandishing sword and other weapons in public during religious processions on April 5, hours after Banerjee told a public meeting at Purulia that “law will take its own course against those who had led processions with weapons.”
Notwithstanding the saffron salvo Banerjee picked up from where she left on Thursday blaming the BJP for driving a wedge in the society.
“Those who carried swords on Ramnavami are not aware of Bengali culture. God is to be worshiped within and religion is to be practiced in home and not on streets by brandishing swords to garner votes” she said proffering apology for visiting Iftars.
“I attend all the functions, from Iftar to Christmas to Durga Puja but why is there so ruckus about my keeping a Roza or two during Ramzan. Even my Muslim friends come to my house during the Kali Puja. So what is the drama all aboutIJ If I do not wish them in the Eid will it be very good. If they do not wish us in Puja will it be good eitherIJ But these people who use religion to purchase votes will not understand this.”
Banerjee who inaugurated yet another district of Burdwan West by bifurcating Burdwan warned “I will not tolerate any communal disturbance in Bengal and if anyone tries to ignite fire then they will also have to burn in it.”
Earlier Burdwan was divided into two districts Burdwan East to be headquartered in Burdwan proper and Burdwan West, the 23rd district of the State, to be headquartered in Asansol.
