BJP defers Hunkar rally

Published on:

Bihar BJP will organise a Hunkar Rally at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna on October 27 to create pressure on the Centre to accord special status to Bihar and to register its protest against the step motherly treatment being meted out to  the State by the UPA Government.

A decision to that effect was taken during the State party executive committee meeting which concluded in Patna on Sunday, The “Hunkar Rally” was earlier scheduled on April 15 but it has to be postponed in view of installation of a new BJP team in the State.

State BJP President Mangal Pandey told the Pioneer that the new date for the “Hunkar Rally” has been fixed in October as it will give sufficient time to the party to create a new organisational structure, starting from the booth level to the State level. He said that all party units will also become fully operational by that time.

When asked about those prominent leaders participating at the “Hunkar Rally”, he said that the central leadership will decide names of invitees and the State party has no role in it.

When the date for the “Hunkar  Rally” was announced last time, it was widely debated whether Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will also be  invited to address the rally as it was apprehended that it could annoy State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Pandey said issues like coal linkage to the State`s power plants and special package for infrastructure development will also be raised during the Hunkar Rally.

Even at the time of installation of Mangal Pandey as the State party President, Bihar Minister from BJP quota, Giriraj SIngh and senior party leader Tarakant Jha had raised the issue of inviting Narendra Modi to the State as he could not enjoy his feast last time.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had cancelled a dinner for the top brass of BJP in 2010 to convey his disapproval on an advertisement featuring him and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi  and another on the aid provided by Gujarat during the devastating floods that had hit the State.
