Going by the results of 2014 lok Sabha polls, the saffron party has advantage over rival parties in 165 Assembly seats against the victory target of 150 given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Gujarat BJP leaders for the Assembly elections, scheduled for this year-end.
Divulging vital statistics, a senior Gujarat BJP leader said that the BJP had not only won all 26 seats in the historic 2014 gerneral elections but also was way ahead in number of votes in 165 out of 182 Assembly segments. Citing results of 2014 lok Sabha elections and 2017 Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, he claimed that generally result pattern of lok Sabha and Assembly polls remain same.
The recent poll result in UP is the greatest example, he said, adding that BJP had won 73 out of 80 seats in 2014 lok Sabha elections and again history repeated after almost three years there as out of 403 Assembly constituencies, saffron brigade captured 325.
Gujarat BJP spokesman Bharat Pandya seconded the claim saying that 150 plus target is based on ground reality even if one wouldn’t consider the 2014 lok Sabha polls outcome. According to Pandya four factors – strong leadership, development work done by BJP Governments in Gujarat and Centre, solid organisational activities and weak opposition would make it possible.
“During Modi’s tenure as Gujarat CM our party used to win around 120 seats. Now he has been elevated as Prime Minister and his influence would be even more. Unlike previous two Assembly polls, the BJP led NDA Government is at the helm at Centre and its pro-people initiatives only made BJP’s position strong in Gujarat. Moreover, the party’s national president Amit Shah too is from the State,” he asserted.
Gujarat BJP is having primary membership of over 1 crore he said adding that it means 1 out of every sixth Gujarati is BJP member. The organisation is pro-active and party workers including the State president have already started working right from booth level to State level to achieve the target, he added.
This month Gujarat BJP is launching ‘Vistark Yojana’ to reach out over 47,000 booths across 182 Assembly segments and more than 50,000 people would meet people at various tehsils and districts to tell about Modi as well as Rupani Governments’ schemes and development works, he said.
Along with Modi Government’s achievements with Rupani Government’s pro-people decisions would be highlighted, he said adding that under Seva Setu programme, more than 45 lakh people’s problems were solved.
Besides BJP’s solid preparedness, plight of opposition party would help to achieve 150 plus target as Gujarat Congress was suffering from groupism, claimed Pandya. According to him, unlike BJP, the Congress party didn’t have strong leadership at state as well as nation level.
