Reacting on statement of former Gujarat DGP RB Sreekumar in various Ahmedabad-based newspapers that the BJP has misrepresented facts in the 19-year-old ISRO spy case, BJP’s national spokesperson Meenakshi lekhi clarified that Sreekumar was chargesheeted in ISRO espionage case on November 17, 1999 when the NDA Government was in power. Hence statement of Sreekumar that he was chargesheeted by UPA Government is totally false and misleading.
lekhi said that the whole purpose for exonerating Sreekumar was to make him depose against Narendra Modi in the riots of 2002. “Prior to 2005, affidavits filed by Sreekumar before the Nanavati Commission did not implicate Modi in the riots. After his exoneration in January, 2005 by UPA, Sreekumar filed several affidavits before the Nanavati Commission belatedly blaming Modi for the riot and also repeating in the media,” she said in a written statement.
