BJP chief on two-day WB tour from today

Apparently buoyed by the BJP’s impressive performance in the last month’s panchayat elections when the party secured an impressive 24 percent vote share, BJP president Amit Shah will visit Bengal for two days beginning Wednesday.

The party chief will hold a series of crucial meetings in Kolkata, Birbhum and also in Purulia where Shah will also meet the kin of the party men who were allegedly murdered by the Trinamool Congress goons soon after the rural elections. The news hit national headlines last month.

With the general elections less than a year away Shah's visit assumes importance --- particularly in the wake of the BJP's steady emergence as the principally opposition party in Bengal shoving the once mighty left Front to a distant third position.

Shah is likely to reach Kolkata mid noon where after he will hold a series of crucial meetings with the cyber cell and extended core committee members. later on Wednesday he will proceed to Birbhum where he will offer prayers at Tarapeeth Temple before holding parleys with senior party leaders of the district.

The BJP president is likely to focus on key strategic issues with an eye on the general elections, sources maintained. The meeting with the cyber experts assumes importance in the backdrop of Shah's strategy to start cyber campaign ahead of the hustings, insiders said.  Thereafter the BJP chief will go to Purulia where he will meet the kin of Trilochan Mahato and Dulal Kumar who were bumped off by the Trinamool goons for joining the saffron outfit.
