Union Human resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar while celebrating one year of demonetisation as a fiscal achievement of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government came down heavily on the Congress which is protesting one year of demonetisation process. The HRD Minister attacked Congress for observing one year of demonetisation as black day and accused the Congress of institutionalising black money. He said in Bengaluru on Wednesday that the demonetisation of of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on November 8 last year was a “historic” decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which “helped curb black money”.

He said “Congress had institutionalised corruption and supported black money, while we (Bharatiya Janata Party) are bringing honesty and transparency into the system.”

“Today BJP is observing anti-black money day, while Congress is observing this day as black money support day," he said, adding that it was war of two political cultures.

Javadekar said the decision on demonetisation was one of the decision taken to fight corruption and terror  funding by Prime Minister Modi.  Javadekar asserted and said the process of demonetisation has given impetus to digital transactions in the country and it is gone up by sixty percent.

"Tax collection has increased by 15 per cent and the tax payer compliance is up by 25 per cent..all these things show positive impact of  demonetisation” , he added.

The minister said “this move has ushered in many benefits. As many as 37,000 shell companies which used to convert  black money  to white money have been identified and caught. As many as 4.7 lakh dubious transactions worth Rs 3 lakh crore have been identified and more are being investigated.

“Over 400 properties worth Rs 1,200 crore has been confiscated”, he  added.
