Shocked with a humiliating defeat in Karnataka, the BJP leadership has begun the exercise to fine tune organisation and electoral strategy.
At a meeting of 22 top BJP leaders here on Thursday, the party decided to appoint convener and in-charge in every lok Sabha seat by May 25. Senior BJP leaders have been authorised to visit each State to get a feedback and prepare a tentative list of convener and in-charge. The list would be finally approved by the central leadership after consultation with the State unit.
Uttar Pradesh has been divided into four regions and Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan, Trivendra Rawat and Shyam Jaju would go to each of these regions. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Ananth Kumar would visit different regions of Maharashtra to prepare the list of convener and in-charge for lok Sabha seats.
Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Prabhat Jha and JP Nadda are other prominent leaders who would travel to Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Bihar respectively to get feedback from local unit and prepare such list. The BJP is concentrating on 300-odd seat which the party has won at least once in its history. Party leadership is also focusing on strengthening booth-committee, a panel of worker at every booth.
The pending list of Prabharis of different States is also being finalised and a formal announcement could be expected within a fortnight. In-charge for different morchas of the party would also be appointed simultaneously.
Another set of leaders would be kept “free” — they will not be appointed in-charge of any State — for election management exercise. “The existing election management set up would be completely overhauled. There are many leaders whose services have not been utilised properly. This would be taken care of this time,” a senior BJP leader said.
The idea is to avoid overlapping of ‘jurisdiction’ and too many responsibilities to a single leader. “Some leaders had charge of more than one State, making it difficult for them to concentrate on one. With election less than a year from now, it would be taken care of that Prabharis are not overburdened and get time to concentrate on their job,” another BJP leader said.
