Bitti forged certificates: Kerala Police

A visiting Kerala Police team after verifying the records of three educational institutions in Odisha here on Friday confirmed that the absconding rape convict Bittihotra Mohanti had forged his academic certificates from Class X to BTech in the name of Raghav Rajan.

Visiting the KIIT University in Bhubaneswar and the Stewart School and Christ College inCuttack, the police team found that in fact Bitti, son of former Odisha DGP Bidya Bhusan Mohanti had actually studied in these institutions, which had never enrolled anybody by the name Raghav Rajan, son of Rajiv Rajan, a so-called domicile of Puttaparthy in Andhra Pradesh.

A four-member police team, which had arrived in Bhubaneswar on Thursday evening, on Friday morning went straight to the KIIT University, where they found no student by the name Raghav Rajan was ever enrolled. But they learnt that Bittihotra had obtained his BTech in computer science from the university in 2004.

Similarly, after verifying the documents in the Stewart School and Christ College in Cuttack, the police team found that Bitti had passed his Class X and Plus II Science examinations from the school and the college, respectively, in the year 1999 and 2001.

“We could not find any student by the name Raghav Rajan who ever studied in these two institutions. So, it is now clear that all the academic documents by virtue of which the arrested person obtained his MBA from Kerala and got into a bank job are fake and they had been forged,” said Jose Joseph, who is heading the police team from Kerala.

Speaking to reporters here, a member of the team informed that they would visitCuttack again on Saturday to hold talks with some senior police officers of the State. They are also scheduled to meet Bitti’s father BB Mohanti. He, however, did not divulge anything further and also refused to comment on what purpose they would meet the retired IPS officer.

It may be noted that the Kerala police on March 8 arrested Bitti, who had jumped parole from a Rajasthan jail in December 2006.

The Rajasthan police confirmed that the arrested youth is none other than Bittihotra Mohanti, who was convicted in March 2006 for raping a German intern in Alwar.
