Bihar turns 103, CM launches slew of schemes

Bihar turned 103 on Sunday. To mark the occasion a three-day Bihar Diwas is being observed across the State. The sprawling Gandhi Maidan is spruced up with hundreds of stalls. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who conceptualized the idea of observing the day in 2012, exhorted the public to touch the heights of the sky and fight for the rights. Addressing a gathering, he called upon the residents of Bihar to maintain unity and social harmony and continue efforts to make Bihar a land of peace and prosperity.

Speaking at the function to mark the 103rd anniversary of Bihar's separation from the then Bengal province of the British-ruled India, Kumar said execution of the policy will be reviewed every six months by the Chief Secretary, while he himself will keep a tab on it.  He said, “Now the Biharis feel proud of being identified with Bihar.” He told them to observe the Bihar Day every year as they observe their festivals and to take inspiration by recalling the glorious past and heritage of Bihar.

This year’s Bihar Day has a theme of “Mile sure mera tumhara” keeping in view the communal and social harmony. Nitish dedicated the day to women and listed numerous projects and decisions to achieve it like reservation in panchayat, free school uniform and bicycle, reservation in police constabulary, provision for high education and others. A 18-feet tall statue has been installed to showcase male and female equality.

On this day, Nitish also unveiled Bihar Women Empowerment Police, 2015 under which a roadmap for the women’s social, economic, political, cultural and educational empowerment has been drafted and all the departments concerned have been asked to formulate policies accordingly and educate the fair sex about such schemes.
