The controversial secretary of Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) Parmeshwar Ram, now suspended after his arrest in connection with the leak of question papers, is an absconder in the police records for 17 years.

Ram, who had been appointed secretary of BSSC which is appointing authority of clerk grade staff by then CM Jitan Ram Manjhi in 2014, is facing three criminal cases registered against him in two police stations from 1997. These cases were registered when he was Circle Officer of Mainatand in West Champaran. In one of the cases warrant of arrest had been issued but it could not be served so he was declared as absconder in the police records. Mainatand police station officer Rafiqur Rahman said the warrant would again be sent for his arrest.

The Special Investigating Team (SIT) constituted to probe into the scam is likely to take Ram and others on remand and will soon approach the court. The SIT has also taken about 40 coaching institutes of Patna on its radar. It is believed that several students of these institutes had been leaked the questions papers. Chairman of

BSSC Sudhir Kumar, IAS has already been interrogated by the SIT and now a new questionnaire has been sent to him for his clarifications.

The SIT is also expected to arrest the computer operator of the chairman.

Ruling out a CBI probe into this scam, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the SIT headed by Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj was working in right direction and almost two dozen people involved in this scam have already been arrested. “Stern action will be taken in connection with the job scam too similarly as the police did in topper scam and many so-called powerful people were arrested. However, the topper scam main accused Bachcha Rai has secured bail.
