Most of the time legislators stay in the news for wrong or not so pleasant reasons. But the Bihar MlA, a few of them in the news recently for thoroughly wrong reasons, will go for some humanitarian work. Come April 2, and they will donate blood to mark the Commonwealth Day and the annual general meeting of the Bihar Chapter of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, who is making efforts to uplift the morale and spirit of the legislators including session for their training, has come out with blood donation initiative which will show the humane face of the public representatives. This is possibly the first incident of MlAs, including Ministers, donating blood in groups as a matter of social service.

“When I discussed about it with the legislators of different parties they were quit enthusiastic and upbeat,” he said. The blood collected from the MlAs will go the blood bank at Patna Medical College & Hospital for its transfusion to the needy poor patients. The Speaker and other staff of the Secretariat will also join the stream of blood donors.

Chaudhary expected that most of the MlAs below the age of 55 and who have no serious disease will join the noble cause. More than half of the 243 legislators fall under below 55 years and 100 of them are first timer. “Blood donation is the most noble and great donation,” said Chaudhary and appealed to others too to participate in this campaign.

Apart from blood donation, a session will also be held to create awareness among the legislators about the danger of cancer. Eminent surgeon and anti-cancer campaign Dr A A Hai will inform them about the disease and its causes. “This will help the MlAs to make aware about cancer the people in their respective constituencies,” said the Speaker.
