The Grameen Sneh Foundation (GSF) is an NGO with a difference. Mostly the NGOs are accused of seeking publicity and funding from various sources, but GSF is one which is shy of publicity despite working in three States and not taking financial help from Government and other sources.
The GSF is run by a serving IAS officer of Bihar cadre and his architect wife. The couple has launched a massive campaign among the rural masses to make them aware about the spread of cancer and how to check it. The GSF is a national NGO and working in Bihar, Odisha and New Delhi. The man behind this campaign is a 2000 batch Bihar cadre IAS officer Ganga Kumar who is spearheading this movement with missionary zeal.
Kumar said initially his NGO was engaged in health education, art and culture, early childhood education reform and holding health check-up and blood donation camps.
“After my wife Sneha was diagnosed with cancer, we are focusing on cancer awareness camps,” said Kumar, Managing Director of Bihar State Building Construction Corporation besides special secretary in Building Construction Department.
Kumar and wife Snehamayee Routray, a Delhi-based architect and interior designer, have planned to organise a ramp show in Patna possibly in June where the cancer patients in attractive attire will walk on the ramp. The couple, who spend Rs5 to 7 lakh yearly on this campaign from their earning and donations from the family and friends, have a target to organise free health check-up camps in all the 38 districts of Bihar for the healthy life of all the poor people of rural areas.
