The controversial statement made by Haryana BJP leader OP Dhankar recently reverberated in Bihar Assembly on Monday as the members of ruling party JD(U), RJD and Congress made strong protest against it and forced adjournment of the State Assembly. The BJP, though, described it as a non-issue saying the statement was misinterpreted.
The JD(U) legislators along with RJD and Congress members trooped into the well of the House demanding action against Dhankar and his close friend Sushil Kumar Modi. RJD chief lalu Prasad had lobbed enough hints recently for a possible alliance with the JD(U) and Congress in the next state assembly poll apparently to take on BJP together.
The Haryana BJP leader and president of the BJP Kisan Morcha OP Dhankar had allegedly had made a controversial remark in a meeting saying if BJP would come to power the bachelor boys of Harayan would get brides from Bihar to marry. He reportedly has also said that since Bihar BJP leader Shushil Kumar Modi was friend he would extend help to them.
Haryana has lowest sex ratio in the country with 879 women for 1000 men according to 2011 census. “Action must be taken against the BJP leader from Haryana and his friend Shushil Kumar Modi too should resign from the post of leader of Opposition in the state council”, demanded the protesting leaders.
The RJD leader and former chief minister Rabri Devi too said that the Haryana BJP leader has degraded pride of Bihar and all those living inn the State. “Everyone living in Bihar is hurt over the statement and he should at least tender his apology for his statement. He has hurt the sentiment of people living in Bihar,” said Rabri Devi.
Earlier, RJD chief lalu Prasad too had strongly condemned Haryana BJP leader Dhankar’s statement issuing threat that he would chop off his ear for insulting Bihar.
While another RJD legislator Bhai Dinesh said that Dhankar has insulted daughters of Bihar “but it is unfortunate that the BJP leaders are defending him over his remark. We will not sit silent till he gets arrested”.However, the senior state BJP leader Shushil Kumar Modi told media persons that it was non-issue that the ruling party and its alliance partners were using to divert attention from the scam in which spurious drugs were supplied in government hospitals.
“Its nothing but a ploy by the ruling and its alliance partners in the House to divert to save Nitish Kumar from the scam in which spurious drugs were supplied to government hospitals”, charged Modi while adding that the BJP wanted to raise this issue in the House on Monday.
The BJP leader also clarified that he had a talk over telephone with OP Dhankar and he said he meant to say that party would stop illegal trafficking of girls purchased from Bihar into Haryana and married there but when their party would come to power in Haryana they would get the marriage done in a legalised manner.
“There is nothing wrong in inter-state marriages. Even RJD president lalu Prasad's three daughters have been married in Haryana in a proper manner,” said Shushil Modi.
He further said that instead of making hullabaloo over Dhankar's statement the ruling party JD-U should make an inquiry how the poor girls from Bihar have been purchased and married off in places like Haryana and Punjab.
Meanwhile, in the raging pandemonium in the House the opposition BJP legislators took on former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar while raising the issue of purchase of spurious medicines from blacklisted companies and supplied to government hospitals which resulted in death of a person recently
The protesting BJP legislators also demanded a CBI probe into the matter and shouted slogans against the ruling party while trooping into the well of the House.
Shushil Kumar Modi charged that spurious medicines were purchased from six blacklisted companies in January this year and supplied in hospitals of the State when Nitish Kumar was the Chief Minister.
