Veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan on Monday consented to be the Tiger Ambassador for Maharashtra, within days after Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar requested him to create awareness and promote tiger tourism in the State.
Complimenting the Minister for giving the ‘most essential campaign such a detailed attention,’ Amitabh stated in his acceptance letter: “Your expansive letter has educated me greatly on not just the tiger reserves within the State of Maharashtra, but also the finer points of the campaign.”
“Through this letter, I wish to accept your kind offer to render my services towards the State Government’s initiative for tiger conservation,” Big-B stated.
“Considering the popularity and legendary image of Bachchan, he was an automatic choice to be appointed as Tiger Ambassador which will be instrumental in bringing the awareness among the citizens of the State towards protection and preservation of tigers. Mungantiwar is confident that involvement of citizens in the save tiger movement will convert it into a popular movement with the help of Amitabh Bachchan,” an official release that accompanied Amitabh’s letter of acceptance stated.
Mungantiwar, in his letter shot off to Amitabh on the international tiger day on July 29, stated: “Considering your stature and following among all sections of the society, any appeal made you to get support of the people in this task of saving the tiger will certainly go a long way in helping us in the protecting the species.”
“As an ardent fan, I have grown up seeing many of your films right from Saat Hindustani to the recent Piku and vividly remember your song in film Mr Natwarlal...’ghane jangalon se’....I remember the scene in the film where you ward off a tiger attack. The fight here is different though. From reel life to real life, we now seek your assistance...,” he had stated.
