Bhushan in trouble for insulting deity

Deshbakti Andolan, a social organisation, on Sunday lodged a complaint against senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan with the Mumbai police for allegedly hurting the sentiments of “millions of Hindus” by calling lord Krishna a “legendary eve-teaser”.

Within hours after Bhushan tweeted calling lord Krishna a “legendary eve teaser” and dared Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Aditya Nath Yogi to call his vigilantes anti-Krishna squads, erstwhile journalist and Andolan’s founder S Balakrishnan lodged an on-line complaint with the Mumbai police against the noted New Delhi-based lawyer.

“The Andolan condemns Prashant Bhushan for calling Prashant Bhushan for calling lord Krishna a legendary eve-teaser. I have filed a complaint with the Mumbai police and demanded Bhushan’s immediate arrest for hurting the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus who hold lord Krishna in high reverence,” Balakrishnan said.

According to Balarishnan, Bhushan has committed an offence under Sections 295  (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code.

“If the police fail to act on the Andolan’s complaint, then it will file a case in the appropriate Metropolitan Magistrate’s court against Bhushan. Would Bhushan have dared to make a similar comment about Muslim GodsIJ Had Bhushan committed such an indiscretion, there would already have been a major public furore across the country,” Balakrishnan said.

Charging that Bhushan had links with Kashmiri separatists, Balakrishnan said:  “Incidentally, Bhushan is also known to favour so-called azadi for Kashmiri separatists”.

Bhushan had earlier in the day stirred up a hornet’s nest by tweeting: “Romeo loved just one lady, while Krishna was a legendary Eve teaser. Would Adityanath have the guts to call his vigilantes AntiKrishna squadsIJ”.

Sudheendra Kulkarni, a former journalist and an ex-aide of former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and veteran BJP leader lK Advani, criticised Bhushan by tweeting: “Prashant Bhushan calling lord Krishna 'eve teaser' is objectionable. This is how anti-Hindu secular-fundamentalism defeats true secularism”.
