Bharti: CNG crematoriums should replace electrical ones

Published on:

The Government is undertaking multiple measures to rejuvenate Ganga in the next three years. The short-term measures would take off within six months. The medium-term measures will be implemented between six months and one-and-a-half years while long-term measures would be carried out between 22 months and three years.

According to Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Uma Bharti, electrical crematoriums by the river banks should be closed and replaced with CNG-run ones as they are less polluting. Religious leaders also do not oppose the CNG crematoriums, she pointed out. She was speaking on the sidelines of TERI convention on Sustainable Water Resource Management and Cleaning of Indian Rivers.

She said such crematoriums do not leave bodies partially burnt. The commonest problem with traditional way of cremation is that several bodies are left partially burnt and float in the river. These unburnt bodies cause major bacterial pollution along the river banks.
