MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police have arrested a 30-year-old IT engineer from Bengaluru for allegedly sending threat messages to actors Tushaar Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana while pretending to be linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, an officer said.
The accused, Vaibhav Mishra, was arrested on November 3. Investigators said he had also sent similar voice messages to several other Bollywood celebrities.
"He is not linked to that gang. We suspect prima facie that he tried to take advantage of the fear of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang that had been generated in the aftermath of the firing at Tiger Shroff last month," the officer said. He also added that, "we suspect he used AI to generate voice samples and found conatct numbers after carrying out an online search".
The arrest follows a fresh complaint from Khurrana after Kapoor had received a similar call. Police are examining the phone and digital records used to send the messages. (With inputs from media reports)
