Bengaluru traffic police have restricted the entry of petrol, diesel and LPG tankers carrying fuel to destinations outside the city, in a move to ease traffic congestion, starting November 2, 2026.

Such vehicles must now use alternative routes, including NICE Road and the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR), instead of passing through the city.

The decision follows concerns over the growing number of heavy vehicles on Bengaluru’s roads, which add to congestion on major arterial routes.

Police found that 800 to 1,000 petrol, diesel and LPG tankers travel every day from Devaragundi in Hoskote taluk to various districts, passing through the city.

Heavy vehicles have been barred from entering Bengaluru during morning hours since 2014.

Tankers carrying essential commodities such as fuel and LPG were exempted and allowed to operate round the clock. Police have now reviewed that exemption after noticing the large number of tankers moving through the city.
