From the sensitive issue of gender justice to the depiction of a slice of Indian history; from the genre of thriller to the supernatural; from bringing alive the dark realities of life to exposing our social hypocrisies — a variety of themes will be at play at the two-day Bengal Theatre Fest to be held here from Saturday.
Four theatre groups from Delhi and one from Kolkata are participating in the festival, being organised at Muktadhara Auditorium in Gole Market by the West Bengal Information and Cultural Centre(WBICC), under the Office of the Resident Commissioner, West Bengal Government.
'This is the maiden theatre festival by WBICC after organizing several film festivals in recent years which were well-received by the culture connoisseurs of the city,
especially in the Bengali community," said Prasenjit Das, Deputy Director of Information and Deputy Resident Commissioner, West Bengal.
The participating theatre groups are Milani Cultural and Welfare Association, Aamra Kajon, Shapno Ekhon, Aakriti Drama Society and Nat-Ranga under whose umbrella all time favourites plays like 'Aurangzeb' (directed by Aniruddha Sarkar), Bhoy (Rabishankar Kar), Ami Sudha Bolchi (Shomik Ray), Tashkar ( Souvik Sen Gupta), Nishir Daak (Sohan Banodopadhyay)
are expected to leave something for the imagination of the audience.
