Senior Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim became the second human volunteer to take part in the third phase of corona vaccine trial that was organized at the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases or Niced in Kolkata. He was preceded in the trial by one Biplab Jash.

Hakim reported no complaint saying “I am fine and there is no complication,” adding he was ready to sacrifice his life for the cause of humanity.

“Even if I have to give my life I am ready to do so but let there be a vaccine for the teeming millions,” he said. He will be observed by the doctors for coming one year.

Meanwhile, Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday once again raised the issue of rampant corruption in the use of pandemic fund by the State Government and demanded probe into it.

“I am aware that Rs 2000 crore pandemic purchase has suffered a fraud and needs to be investigated,” adding when this was brought to the notice of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee she constituted a committee.

However he said the committee itself was not beyond question. “But I wanted to know about who were the investigators and who were investigated,” I also want to know the fate of the investigation by the investigators who perpetrated the scam,” he said. There was no immediate response from the State Government.
