With a decline in Covid-19 cases, the West Bengal Government is gearing up to organise the Global Business Summit (BGBS) in April 2022, after a gap of two years due to the pandemic.
Asserting that the State was more focused on development rather than mere 'growth’ which is just compilation of data, Rajiv Sinha, Chairperson of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, said that the Government has been providing various facilities for entrepreneurs, including green energy solution space, establishing an eco-system for electric vehicle manufacturing, developing inland waterways transportation and related infrastructure, developing warehousing and logistics facilities, technology-driven digital information systems and data centres.
Sinha said that the global summit from April 20 to April 21 aims to showcase the State's readiness for business investment.
“The state is ready to invest in Industrial Infrastructure - more than 200 Industrial Parks or Estates spread over an area of around 10,000 acres. The state government also introduced a scheme of private industrial parks called SAIP (Scheme for Approved Industrial Park). Further, a total of USD 9,490 million exports had been made from the state in 2019-20 - 12 per cent of the country's leather and 10 per cent of iron and steel exports,” he said.
The upcoming deep-sea port at Tajpur with enhanced connectivity is aimed at North-Eastern India and South East Asia. Hence, an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Tajpur Port has been floated, said Sinha.
Also, excavation work is going to start soon at the recently allocated Deocha-Pachami-Dewanganj-Harinsigha coal block located in the State which is considered to be the largest coal block in India while a string of business friendly policies such as Ethanol Production Promotion Policy 2021, Data Centre Policy, 2021 have been notified recently.
Also, with an aim to make Bengal best in the industries and commerce sector, we have sought expression of interest (EoI) for setting up of cycle manufacturing plants in Bengal, said Sinha.
In fact, the West Bengal in IITF 2021 too in conformity with the theme decided by ITPO, the organizer, that is, ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat-Self Reliant India’, has projected the self- sufficiency of the state in sectors of development and growth.
Aiding them are schemes and projects undertaken by the State Government like ‘Duare Sarkar’, or doorstep delivery of government services.
