After writing to Congress president Sonia Gandhi against striking an alliance with the Trinamool Congress, party’s Bengal unit president Adhir Chowdhury on Tuesday said he would never accept any kind of truck with a “party of murderers and vote-looters.”
Chowdhury’s statement comes within minutes of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee meeting Gandhi at her Janpath residence to talk among many other things presidential elections.
Though Chowdhury said it was not unusual for political parties to come to an understanding on various national issues he assured he was not in favour of any kind of lasting alliance with the Trinamool Congress.
“Here they kill our supporters in Bengal and there in Delhi they play the tune of friendship. This is not acceptable by us” he said, adding “till I am in charge of the State Congress I will not accept an alliance with the party of murderers and vote-looters.”
The Trinamool Congress had decimated the Congress in Bengal by “blunt and blatant use of force and money power. The grassroots workers of our party are being attacked and victimised and killed by the Trinamool every day. So how can we ally with the party of murderers and vote-looters.”
Meanwhile citing large-scale violence the State Congress on Tuesday filed a writ in Calcutta High Court seeking an order withholding the declaration of election results for the three municipal boards — of Raiganj, Domkal and Pujali — that went to polls along with four other boards in Darjeeling hills on Sunday. The matter will be heard on Wednesday the day when the results are also likely to be declared.
Elsewhere violent clashes continued between the BJP and Trinamool leaving five people injured at Bandel in Hooghly district, police.
