Bengal BJP observes ‘save democracy day’, holds dharnas

With the Assembly elections less than a year away, the Bengal BJP on Friday gave a call for change in the State alleging the Mamata Banerjee Government had instead of delivering on its promises perpetrated a goonda-syndicate and scam-hit raj.

Mounting a no-holds-barred attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress BJP State president Dilip Ghosh called upon the people to, “bring about a change in Bengal for the sake of restoring democracy which has been hijacked by the TMC’s goonda and syndicate brigade in Bengal.”

The saffron party on Friday organised a “save democracy day” in Bengal holding dharnas at various parts of the State including a mega meeting in Kolkata.

Alleging that no work in the State could be done without greasing the palms of the politicians in power the Ghosh said referring to the alleged mass corruption in providing relief to the victims of Amphan super cyclone. “Even the poorest of the poor were not spared when it came to distribution of relief to the victims of Amphan … money was sanctioned in the name local TMC leaders who gobbled up the funds in the name of providing relief and when the BJP workers objected they were victimized by various means.”

Alleging that the saffron workers were at the receiving end of the police-TMC clique he said “our workers are either framed in false cases or murdered … often they are found hanging from trees or any other places … Purulia is a glaring example. Even an MLA was murdered in this manner and the police simply did nothing.”

Ghosh however said “the people had made up their minds to bring about a change in Bengal” a trailer of which was shown in 2019 general elections when the saffron party won 19 out of 42 seats whereas the TMC could scrape through in 21 seats. The Congress won 2 seats.

Earlier the police were seen dismantling a number of BJP stages erected by the BJP to organize the programme citing pandemic situation.
