Former President APJ Abdul Kalam on Sunday urged the youth to begin fight against corruption from the home itself. Delivering the first Defence Estates Day lecture here he said an analysis has found that 30 per cent houses in India were corrupt.
“Of the 200 millions houses in the country 60 million houses are corrupt. Each house comprise parent and their children,” he said, adding that the country need lot of leaders with integrity.
“The question is will the daughter or son would be bold enough to say to their corrupt father please do not do that (corruption)IJ let’s start from the home,” he added.
Kalam observed that though the Government could frame laws, it would only end up in filling jails. “Young people have got a responsibility to make a home clean and transparent home,” the former President stated.
Former President was responding to questions posed by the audience after his lecture on the topic ‘Creative leadership for Transforming Societies’. Earlier, addressing the gathering he highlighted the qualities required for leadership.
A leader, he said, must have a vision and courage to take decisions. “leader should be transparent in every action...The 21st century needs leaders working with integrity and succeed with integrity,” Kalam stressed.
He also stressed that the economic development of any nation is definitely linked with the creative leadership. For success in all the missions, it is essential to have creative leaders, he added. Minister of State for Defence Jitendra Singh also spoke on the occasion.
