On International Women's Day on Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called upon educational institutions to become a medium of the Government schemes' implementation.

“A society or class lags behind when it is not aware of the system and schemes of the government. Therefore, schools, colleges and universities will have to become the medium of implementing government schemes because the students coming out of these institutions will implement these schemes some time in future,” Yogi said while addressing a seminar organized on International Women's Day at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University on Tuesday.

The BJP leader said that this year's theme on World Women's Day is 'Gender Equality for a Sustainable Tomorrow'. “You would be surprised to know to what extent women had to fight for their rights across the globe.  In several countries, women did not have the right to vote.  There have been movements in all countries of the world regarding this.  But from the day elections started in India, women got the right to vote. India's first general election was held in 1952 and women were given the right to franchise without any discrimination.

However in many countries, like in England, women got the right to vote after India. This implies that there is already a sense of equality for women in India,” the Chief Minister said.

“When India adopted its Constitution, its sentiment was that no one would discriminate against any person on the basis of caste, religion, creed, sex or language.  Equality and liberty are the souls of the Constitution of India.  Despite all this, this process may not have progressed that well. Therefore, we talk about awareness so that people should have information about the schemes related to the welfare of women and all sections of the society,” he said.

Yogi Adityanath, who is also Chancellor of Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, said that security, respect and self-reliance would pave the way for women empowerment.  “When Modi ji became the Prime Minister in 2014, he introduced 'Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao' scheme. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, 2.61 crore families were given toilets, which is also related to the dignity and respect of women.  Under the Ujjwala scheme, 1.67 crore poor families were provided with LPG gas.  Through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, women were given the right of ownership of houses by providing them with more than 43.50 lakh houses,” he said.

On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor of Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Prof.  UP Singh, Registrar Dr. Pradeep Rao, Director of AIIMS Gorakhpur Prof.  Surekha Kapoor, Principal of Ayurveda College Dr. T. Suresh, Principal of Nursing College Dr. GS Ajita, Prof.  Shobha Gaur were present.
