The regional film industry in Assam has found a friend in banned United liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa).
Ulfa chairman Avijit Asom has asked all the cinema hall owners in Assam to facilitate screening of the Assamese movies at least for a week in all the cinema halls in Assam.
The Ulfa chairman said this while reacting to the media reports that a newly made Assamese film titled, Shringkhol was not getting good response from the cinema hall owners in terms of screening the film across the State.
The film Shringkhol is based on a short story written by master story teller and filmmaker of Assam, late Dr Bhabendranath Saikia.
“We understand through the media reports that Shringkhol is a non-traditional and non-commercial film based on the short story of one of Assam’s master story teller late Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia. However, the fact that the producer and directors are not getting a cinema hall to screen such a good film has concerned us,” said the Ulfa chief in a statement.
“We also understand that the cinema hall owners will show only those movies which earn them profit. But they should also be aware of their commitment and responsibilities towards Assam while doing business here,” he said, while appealing to the cinema hall owners that each of the Assamese films be screened in every cinema halls at least for a week.
It may be mentioned here that the Assamese film industry have been facing serious problems due to closure of cinema halls across the State.
