Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Barkha Singh has written letter to the Union law Minister and Chief Justice of India, urging them to issue urgent directives to concerned authorities to check rape cases.

“The law department at the Centre and the State will have to enhance its activity on this vital front and will have to devise ways to ensure that rapes, gangrapes, and subsequent murders of innocent women and women exploitation at work place are dealt with sternly and resolved most expeditiously,” the letters said.

The letter further stated that though the Governments have already formed the fast-track courts in the country, “but in view of the old backlog of such sensitive cases, DCW is of the opinion that number of fast track courts and the number of judges should be increased so as to enable early resolution of rape cases in the country.”
