In a decision, which would have far-reaching impact on working of police, higher authorities have put a ban on the use of mobile phones by the police personnel who are posted in control rooms.

Senior police officials said, the decision was taken following largescale complaints by the public that they hardly get timely response from phone numbers 100 and 1090. The footage of CCTV cameras, installed in the control rooms, reveals that the police personnels on duty were spending more time on their mobiles than responding to the calls on control room numbers. It also states that before resuming their duties, officers will have to leave their mobiles at the main gate of the control room.

The order also said that officers at the control rooms will have to regularly monitor the progress in probe by the concerned thanas where the control room had forwarded the complaints. As a normal practice, police control rooms tend to forget the case after forwarding them to the concerned thanas. lady constables and middle rank lady police officials would be posted at the control rooms to monitor the progress in women related crimes, sources said.

Sources said if this ban becomes successful in the Capital, it would also be implemented in other cities.
