Former Union Minister, Beni Prasad Verma accused Narendra Modi of working against the interest of farmers and alleged that the ban on export of high quality paddy crop is just to forward huge benefit to leading businessmen of the country.
“The support price of paddy has been fixed at Rs1,300 but the farmers, who were already hit by the recent cyclone, rising prices of urea and pesticides, were further hit by the Narendra Modi Government’s decision to restrict export, which forced the farmers to sell their produce at throwaway prices”, claimed Verma. He alleged that once the leading traders, who had the blessings of the BJP Government at the Centre would dump the produce in their godowns, the Central Government would lift the ban facilitating the traders to extort huge sum through export of same crop, for which the farmers faced huge losses. “last year, high quality paddy has been exported in Rs 3000 but this year, the farmers were not even getting the cost which they pumped for their crop”, asserted Beni saying that similar is the condition of cottage farmers of Gujrat. RsRsThe farmers in Gujrat were getting just half the price for their cotton which they were getting last year, which put them under huge debt and a record number of them had already committed suicide in the last few years”, former union minister added.
