A two-year-old girl was killed and two other minors injured when a portion of an under-construction balcony of a house located in their neighbourhood collapsed in outer Delhi's Sultanpuri on Monday afternoon. Police have booked the house owner for causing death by negligence but he was yet to be arrested.

The incident took place in Sultanpuri's C-Block at about 12.30 pm. Poonam (16) and her older sister, Neha (17) were sitting with their two-year-old niece Tamanna besides their house. Parents of the two sisters and Tamanna were away at work at the time of the accident. Poonam told police that some labourers were removing debris from their neighbour's house which was undergoing construction. All of a sudden, a portion of the balcony on the first floor of that house collapsed over them. The girls got trapped under the debris.

The victims were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where Tamanna died during treatment. Police said injuries to her head had caused her death. The sisters are undergoing treatment but are stated to be out of danger.  Police were informed of the accident and they arrived at the hospital to take down the statements of the survivors. The house owner Shakuntala has been booked for the death, said police. Poonam and Neha are among four sisters and one brother. Their parents work for a private company. The dead girl was the sole child of her parents.
